CMA CGM S.A. (CMA CGM) has announced the launch of a new service on the Morocco Express route, which is said to connect Morocco more quickly to Europe while also reducing the company's environmental footprint.

"The Morocco Express service reduces CO2 emissions by 43 percent compared to road transport transiting through Spain," said CMA CGM.

"Thus, 64 000 tonnes of CO2 can be saved each year by giving priority to shipping by sea."

CMA CGM says the first departures under the new service at scheduled simultaneously on October 21 in Tangiers and Marseille.

In August, Ship & Bunker reported that, according to industry source, CMA CGM is eyeing the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkers to power a series of 22,000 TEU capacity newbuilds/
