Seascale Energy co-CEO Olivier Josse will step down from his role and retire from Cargill on  December 14, after 36 years with the company.

Gaetan Perret, currently Head of Marine Fuel Procurement at Cargill, will succeed Josse as Vice President, Marine Fuels at Cargill and co-CEO of Seascale Energy alongside Hafnia's Peter Grünwaldt, the firm announced Monday.

Seascale Energy, the marine fuels joint venture of commodities firm Cargill and tanker company Hafnia, was launched in May 2025.

Josse joined Cargill in 1990 and held leadership positions across its trading and chartering businesses. He joined Cargill’s Ocean Transportation business in 2006 and its leadership team in 2010.

He helped establish Seascale Energy in 2025 and has served as co-CEO since the joint venture began operations.

“OJ has spent 36 years building businesses and developing people at Cargill, most recently through Seascale Energy,” Jan Dieleman, President of Cargill’s Ocean Transportation business, said

The joint venture procures around 8 million mt of marine fuel annually for more than 50 third-party members.

It operates from Singapore, Copenhagen, Geneva and Houston.

Perret has more than two decades of experience across shipping, trading and bunkering. He has been closely involved in building Cargill’s Pure Marine Fuels business and establishing Seascale Energy, and currently leads marine fuel purchasing in the West.

The joint venture remains equally owned by Cargill and Hafnia, with its governance, dual-CEO structure and board composition unchanged.

“Customers and suppliers will see continuity in the same team, same model, same commercial terms, with a handover that runs through to December,” Grünwaldt said.
