Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has named the fifth of seven newbuild LNG carriers ordered for QatarEnergy as part of the energy company’s major fleet expansion programme.

The naming ceremony for Al Sabsab was held at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in China, MOL said in a LinkedIn post today.

MOL has six additional LNG carriers contracted under long-term time charter agreements with QatarEnergy.

Once delivered, the total number of MOL LNG carriers under the North Field Expansion Project will reach 13.

“MOL will leverage its experience and expertise as one of the world’s largest shipping companies to develop various social infrastructure businesses, technologies, and services, centering on ocean transport, to meet the needs of a wide range of customers throughout the group,” the firm said.
