Crowley Maritime Corporation (Crowley) has announced the launch of its second Commitment Class ship, the liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fuelled Taíno, at VT Halter Marine.

The vessel, which was launched on Monday in Pascagoula, Mississippi, is hailed as one of the world's first combination ConRo ships to be powered by LNG.

Taíno will now go through final topside construction and a testing phase before beginning service in 2018, joining sister ship, El Coquí, which was launched earlier this year.

El Coquí is currently in final testing prior to entering service in early 2018.
