Cruise Ship Detained Over Unpaid Bunker Bill
The cruise ship MV Princess Danae was arrested on Thursday morning over an unpaid bunker bill of $94,000, local media has reported.
Mr Justice Roderick Murphy made the ex-parte ruling at Ireland's High Court after Italian supplier Omega Bunker SRL (Omega) said the vessels owners, Waybell Cruises Inc (Waybell), failed to pay $94,000 of a $409,000 bunker bill due for fuel purchased in Manilla, Philippines in April 2012.
The vessel had previously been detained in Piraeus, Greece as part of the same dispute before being released in June after Waybell agreed to make a number of payments during June and July of this year in order to settle the bill.
Waybell made some payments but Omega say $94,000 is still outstanding.
Despite the ruling, the vessel was reported to have left the port at about 8.30pm, 90 minutes after its intended departure time, indicating a new agreement had been reached by the parties.
