India and EU Explore Green Shipping Corridor with Focus on Ammonia and Methanol
India and the EU have signed a letter of intent (LoI) to explore a green shipping corridor linking India’s green fuel production with European maritime demand.
The LoI was signed at Sagarmanthan 2026 in New Delhi this week, with green ammonia and methanol among the fuels being considered, India's Ministry of Shipping said in a social media post yesterday.
The India-EU Green Shipping Corridor Coalition will bring together industry stakeholders to assess fuel supply and demand, port and transport infrastructure, and potential commercial pathways.
VOC Port Authority and technical partner Rocky Mountain Institute will support the work, including exploring links with European receiving ports and industrial offtakers.
The initiative aims to assess how India’s growing capacity to produce low-carbon marine fuels could serve European shipping and industrial markets.
The coalition will also look at the infrastructure and commercial requirements needed to establish a viable green shipping corridor between India and Europe.
Ship & Bunker reported last week that a 150 mt/day e-methanol plant being built at Kandla port is expected to produce e-methanol at around $750/mt.
The first phase of the facility is expected to be completed in January 2027.
