Chugoku Marine Paints, Ltd. (CMP) has announced the launch of the first branded marine coatings to feature Selektope, a bunker saving antifouling ingredient, on the mainstream market through its "new generation" SEAFLO NEO product line.

"After a 16-year journey for Selektope through research, testing, approvals and industrialisation, we are honored to be part of CMP’s new premium antifouling range," said Philip Chaabane, CEO of I-TECH AB (I-TECH), the company that developed Selektope.

"Selektope is already excelling in mainstream shipping operations, as well as the tougher conditions arising from more aggressive fouling."

The company notes that Selektope, which stimulates barnacle larvae swimming behaviours in order to prevent barnacle settlement on vessel hulls, is specifically available through two of CMP's brands, SEAFLO NEO CF PREMIUM and SEAFLO NEO-S PREMIUM.

CMP explains that SEAFLO NEO CF PREMIUM is based on zinc polymer technology, and is ideal for oceangoing vessels around the world.

The coating, which is said to have a lifespan of more than five years, has been applied in full coats to vessels owned by shipping companies in Sweden, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan.

Meanwhile, SEAFLO NEO-S PREMIUM, based on silyl polymer technology, is said to be intended for "low activity" vessels that may sit for long periods of time.

"These new SEAFLO NEO antifoulings will meet the demands of today’s shipping market," said Masaya Hata, General Sales Manager at CMP, adding: "SEAFLO NEO CF PREMIUM is particularly effective for owners seeking optimised vessel efficiency in high fouling areas, while SEAFLO NEO-S PREMIUM comes into its own when ships spend more of their time at rest."
