Aqua superpower and Hyke Sign Deal on Electric Ferry Networks
Marine charging infrastructure Aqua superPower and electric ferry developer Hyke have signed an MoU to help cities develop zero-emission ferry services.
The partnership will combine Hyke’s electric ferries with Aqua superPower’s marine charging infrastructure, with a focus on making projects easier to plan and operate, the firms said in an emailed press release on Tuesday.
The companies will work with ferry operators, ports, transport authorities and city planners on route assessments, feasibility studies, pilot projects and demonstrations.
They aim to bring vessel procurement, charging and route planning together from the start of a project, reducing complexity and helping operators move faster from planning to operation.
Hyke’s ferries are designed for urban, inland and protected waterways, while Aqua superPower specialises in fast-charging infrastructure for electric vessels.
“Electric ferries have the potential to provide clean, efficient, and attractive passenger transport while reducing pressure on roads and existing public transport networks,” Niels Astrup, Business Development Manager, Nordics at Aqua superPower, said.
“However, successful deployment requires more than innovative vessels or charging infrastructure alone."
