New GHG Data Governance Framework Introduced for Ro-Ro Shipping
A new governance body has been established to oversee greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data and accounting for the global Ro-Ro shipping industry.
The GRC Council (GRCC), the governing body of the Global Ro-Ro Community (GRC), will oversee the framework, ClassNK said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.
ClassNK helped develop the governance framework and data handling rules.
The GRC brings together Ro-Ro carriers, cargo owners, independent verifiers and other stakeholders, with participants representing around 80% of global car carrier transport capacity based on Car Equivalent Units.
ClassNK has served as an independent verifier since the GRC was launched in 2024.
Hiroshi Ochi, general manager of ClassNK’s Green Certification Department, has been appointed vice-chair of the GRCC.
The council will review and improve the GRC’s emissions methodology, data handling rules and related governance documents.
The initiative aims to improve the reliability and transparency of emissions data and support Scope 3 reporting and decarbonisation across the vehicle supply chain.
