Crowley Joins Trident Alliance
Crowley Maritime Corp. has joined the sulfur regulation enforcement coalition Trident Alliance, the company announced Monday.
The company said that it had signed a statement of commitment promising to adhere to sulfur regulations and support the enforcement of such rules.
"The threat of weak enforcement of sulfur regulations is escalating fast," said Mike Roberts, Crowley's senior vice president.
"Responsible industry is taking the initiative to mitigate this threat, serving the best interests of the environment and human health as well as creating a level playing field for business."
Since the beginning of the year, sulfur content in marine fuel used in Emission Control Areas (ECA) have been limited to 0.10 percent, though lax enforcement in some parts of the world have led to predictions of wide-scale deliberate non-compliance.
The Trident Alliance is currently made up of around 30 shipping companies, including Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk Line.
It was first established mid-2014 with an initial roster of 11 member companies.
