Bunker Spill During Ro-Ro Refueling
Tuesday December 11, 2012
The U.S. Coast Guard says it is continuing the investigataion into a diesel fuel spill of at least 600 gallons on Sunday in the San Antonio Channel at San Juan Harbor in Puerto Rico.
The spill reportedly happened during the refueling of the 176-foot Panamanian flagged Ro-Ro container ship Midnight Chief.
An oil field vacuum truck was reported to have collected recoverable fuel from the containment area around the vessel.
By Monday morning, assessments from a Coast Guard helicopter found that most of the diesel had dissipated and the remainder was unrecoverable.
The Midnight Chief is owned by Star Shipping of Tortola, British Virgin Islands, according to Martime-Connector.com.
