Crowley Takes Delivery of New Bunker Saving LNG-Bunker Ready Tanker
Crowley Maritime Corp. (Crowley) Friday announced that it has taken delivery of the fuel efficient and liquefied natural gas (LNG) Bready tanker Louisiana.
"The delivery marks another highpoint for Crowley's petroleum services group as its tankers are at the forefront of the industry for their potential future conversion to LNG propulsion," stated the company.
The 50,000 DWT Lousiana is said to be the third of four newbuild Jones Act product tankers constructed by Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI) for Crowley, and is set to be christened at a ceremony in New Orleans on May 5.
The delivery of Louisiana, a product tanker with a 330,000 barrel capacity, is said follow that of sister ships Ohio and Texas, which were delivered in 2015 and were the first tankers to receive LNG-Ready Level 1 approval from the American Bureau of Shipping's (ABS).
The tankers' design is said to be based on a Hyundai Mipo Dockyards (HMD) design that incorporates various fuel efficiency features and flexible cargo capability.
Crowley says its fourth product tanker, which is currently under construction, is slated for delivery in the third quarter of 2016.
In March, Crowley announced that the first of its two newbuild Commitment Class ConRo vessels, El Coquí, received the installation of its MAN Diesel & Turbo 8S70ME-C8.2-GI LNG powered engine.
