Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL and Belgium-based shipping group CMB.TECH on Thursday held a naming ceremony for three ammonia-fuelled capesize bulk carriers.

The ceremony took place at CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding in China, MOL said in a press release today.

The vessels were named Ruri Mirai, Ruri Sekai and Ruri Hikari.

The three vessels, each with a capacity of about 209,800 DWT, are scheduled for delivery in phases starting in early 2027. They will be jointly owned by MOL and CMB.TECH, with MOL planning to operate them under long-term charter contracts.

The vessels are equipped with two ammonia fuel tanks, each with a capacity of 3,000 m3, and will form MOL's first net-zero-emission fleet, which aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

CMB.TECH already operated an ammonia-fuelled bulk carrier, which bunkered 1,000 mt of green ammonia in Zhoushan earlier this month.
