CMB.TECH's Ammonia-Fuelled Bulker Bunkers Green Ammonia in China
Belgium-based maritime group CMB.TECH’s newest ammonia-fuelled bulk carrier has bunkered green ammonia in Zhoushan, China.
The vessel, Mineral Europa, bunkered 1,000 mt of ammonia in a ship-to-ship operation in Zhoushan, the firm said in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday.
Ship & Bunker previously reported that the vessel had begun its maiden voyage to Australia after completing sea trials.
The vessel is first ammonia-powered vessel in the bulker segment.
“During the bunkering, the world's first dedicated liquid ammonia bunkering vessel, successfully supplied 1,000 tons of green ammonia to Mineral Europa,” the company said.
“Mineral Europa is now on her way to Australia.”
CMB.TECH expects 21 ammonia-powered vessels to join its fleet by 2029, including 18 dry bulk carriers, one container vessel and two chemical tankers. Most are expected to be delivered within the next nine months.
Most of these ships are expected to be delivered within the next nine months.
Earlier this year, Exmar took delivery of the world’s first ammonia-fuelled oceangoing gas carrier.
