The US Maritime Administration has approved a deepwater port license for ST LNG’s planned $8.2 billion LNG export project off Matagorda, Texas.

The facility is expected to increase US LNG export capacity by 7-9%, the US Department of Transportation said in a press release on October 28.

Construction is due to begin in 2027, with operations planned for 2029.

The port will be built about 10.4 miles offshore and include four liquefaction systems, each with a capacity of 2.1 million mt/year, for a total capacity of 8.4 million mt/year.

It will also have 20 platforms, four LNG floating storage units, four mooring systems and 7.7 miles of pipeline.

“Through this streamlined approach, MARAD finalized the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for ST LNG in just 410 days,” the US Department of Administration said.

“That is nearly 3.7 years faster than the historical average – a 70% reduction in review time and the fastest deepwater port license review in more than two decades.”
