Matson Hires Government, Community Relations Head

U.S. Pacific Ocean transport company Matson Inc. (Matson) [NYSE:MATX] announced Thursday that is has hired Ku'uhaku Park as vice president of government and community relations.

Park will work from the company's headquarters in Honolulu, Hawaii, handling local government relations and community service activities and heading up the promotion and development of the Matson Foundation, the company's community service arm.

Park has experience in the shipping industry as a founding member of the Hawaii Harbor Users Group, an industry association promoting Hawaii's commercial harbors and as a former government and public affairs manager of the Hawaii division of domestic shipping company Horizon Lines Inc.

He recently completed a second term as chair of Hawaii's State Commission on Transportation.

Most recently, Parks worked as managing principal of Honolulu consulting firm Oni Malie LLC, and he has also been manager of the public affairs group at Watanabe lng LLP, marketing manager for Hawaii Family Dental Centers/Hawaii Bio-Waste Systems, and marketing director for Westcom Productions, a sports video company in Oregon.

"As a publicly-traded, Hawaii-based company, it is essential that Matson demonstrate its commitment to the state by proactively engaging in government and community relations activities," said Matt Cox, Matson's president and CEO. 

"Ku'u Park's extensive background in working with the state on transportation matters, as well as his strong record of community involvement, will ensure Matson has an experienced, highly regarded individual representing the company in public affairs. 

"Equally important, Ku'u's expertise will help the company further develop its community outreach through the Matson Foundation."
