A joint venture between Japan’s NYK and Malaysia’s MISC Berhad has signed a long-term charter contract with Malaysia LNG Sdn. Bhd. for a new dual-fuel LNG carrier.

The joint venture Asia LNG Transport (ALT) will take delivery of the 18,700 m3 cargo capacity vessel in 2028, NYK said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

Built by China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, the vessel will transport LNG to Japan.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony in Tokyo on October 9.

The vessel will be fitted with a dual-fuel electric propulsion system and will measure about 129.8 m in length.

“We are very pleased to have concluded this charter agreement,” Hironobu Watanabe, senior managing executive officer at NYK, said.

“Together with MLNG, MISC, and our other partners, we will strive to provide safe and reliable LNG transportation services and contribute to the stable supply of energy to Japan.”
