Total's True Singapore Bunker Sales Ranking Was 10th, not 26th
Total Marine Fuels has confirmed its bunker sales performance in Singapore was better than the 26th place ranking it received on the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA)'s annual ranking of suppliers by volume for 2013, the supplier has told Ship & Bunker.
The supplier said it had spoken to the MPA and confirmed that a change of bunkering licence part way through the year had resulted in its sales being allocated against two different Total companies, rather than being grouped together to give a true sales volume.
Total in Singapore was previously trading as Total Oil Asia-Pacific Pte Ltd (TOAP), which ranked 13th the list in 2012.
On June 1, 2013 MPA issued its new licence to Total under the name Total Marine Fuels Pte Ltd (TMF), and the licence for TOAP was surrendered on August 2, 2013.
Despite both being part of the TOTAL group, the firm said the MPA confirmed it ranks each licence holder as a separate legal entity.
"[TOAP and TMF] are 2 separate legal entities and so the MPA was not able to give us our real rank in their 2013 Top suppliers by volume," a spokesperson for the company said.
"The total volume of bunkers delivered by both TMF and TOAP in 2013 would place the TOTAL group at the 10th position in the list of bunker suppliers ranked by volume in 2013."
"This answer form the MPA confirms our strong position in Singapore thanks to our finalized reorganization into a global business entity based in Singapore under the name Total Marine Fuels Pte Ltd."
Looking ahead, the supplier said that for 2014 TMF will consolidate its position in the bunker market, and its trading team will offer bunkers in more than 100 ports worldwide through the TOTAL group network.
