Monthly bunker sales at the world's biggest bunkering port have edged up over last year although August volumes were down compared to the previous month.

4,363,600 metric tonnes (mt) were sold in Singapore in August compared to 4,228,000 mt in the same month a year ago, according to preliminary figures from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.

Sales of the key bunker fuel grade 380 CST increased from 3,116,700 mt to 3,234,400 mt over the period. In contrast, sales of marine gasoil were down over the same period.

But August failed to beat July in terms of overall volume with total sales in the port in July standing at 4,393,700 mt, and around 30,000 mt above the August figure.

Since 2010, Singapore has sold over 40 million mt of bunkers each year. In 2016, the port shifted 48.6 million mt of bunker fuel.
