BIMCO Offers Free SE Asia Security Workshops in Singapore
BIMCO Tuesday announced it is teaming up with risk management company CSO Alliance to offer free security workshops in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
The workshops will focus on maritime security issues and counter-piracy best practice for the Indian Ocean, Asia and West Africa regions.
CSO Alliance will host the events in conjunction with Giles Noakes, BIMCO’s Chief Maritime Security Officer and Cpt William Nault, U.S. Navy Chief of Staff for the Combined Maritime Forces in Bahrain.
The workshops will include a military briefing on the current counter-piracy mission off the Horn of Africa, and a demonstration of CSO Alliance’s security web platform.
Nault is expected to say that despite dramatic decreases in piracy in the region following military intervention, the mission in Somalia is far from over.
CSO Alliance’s web platform gives Company Safety Officers (CSOs) access to crime data and trends and is said to be in use aboard 10 percent of the world’s fleet.
In Singapore, workshops will be delivered on February 26 and 27 at the Temasek Club, supported by the Singapore Shipping Association.
The workshop will also take place in Hong Kong on March 2 and in Shanghai on March 3.
In January, ReCAAP said bunker syphoning is a driving force behind an increase in piracy in South East Asia, which bucks an otherwise global downward trend.
