Exmar Provides Ammonia Training to Woodside Energy in Perth
Shipping company Exmar has provided ammonia training to the marine assurance team of Woodside Energy in Perth.
The two-day programme focused on practical aspects of ammonia handling and its application as a marine fuel, with an emphasis on safety, risk mitigation, onboard systems and operational procedures, the firm said in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday.
Originally developed to equip Exmar’s own seafarers with the knowledge and confidence to safely operate ammonia carriers and dual-fuel vessels, the training is now being shared with industry partners as interest in ammonia as a bunker fuel grows.
The sessions drew on Exmar’s operational experience to support Woodside’s understanding of how ammonia-fuelled vessels may be audited and operated safely, as the sector prepares for the next generation of low-carbon shipping fuels.
In July 2025, Exmar launched its first 46,000 m3 ammonia-fuelled vessel, which is expected to be officially delivered this year.
