BIMCO Announces New Singapore Office
BIMCO Monday announced that it has opened a new office in Singapore, which it says will enable the organisation to provide better service to its Southeast Asian members and improve collaborations with regional maritime associations.
Maite Bolivar Klarup, who is said to have 16 years of commercial maritime experience, will fulfill the role of General Manager at the new office, stated BIMCO.
"Our new office in Singapore is great news as we will be better able to provide direct advice and support to our members in the region. Maite Bolivar Klarup joins BIMCO with a wealth of shipping experience and I'm sure she will soon become a key contact for members," said BIMCO's Secretary General, Angus Frew.
"With offices in both Shanghai and Singapore we look forward to improving our services to members and to working in closer collaboration with the other maritime associations in the region."
BIMCO notes that its new office, which is located in central Singapore, will be shared with staff from both the Baltic Exchange and the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, and as such, will form "a small 'hub' of maritime organisations in the area."
In January, Ship & Bunker reported that BIMCO's hopes for an industry bounce-back in 2016 were waning, with the organisation warning that the shipping industry it should "brace itself" for another challenging year.
