Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in China has simultaneously bunkered three vessels with LNG, green methanol and B24 biofuel on the same day, marking the first operation of its kind in the country.

The operations took place on September 30 across the Chuanshan, Meishan and Daxie port areas, involving about 7,400 m3 of LNG, 7,500 mt of green methanol and 3,000 mt of B24 biofuel, according to press release from Ningbo Municipality Authority on Thursday.

The methanol transfer, carried out by bunker vessel Zhongran Green Energy 85, also set a new record for the largest single methanol bunkering operation in Zhejiang Province.

Ningbo-Zhoushan has expanded its alternative fuel supply capabilities in recent years.

By September 25, the port had completed 100 bonded LNG bunkering operations for international vessels, with cumulative volumes exceeding 500,000 m3 since June 2023.

It has also completed 62 biofuel bunkering operations totalling more than 150,000 mt, ranking first in China by volume, according to local maritime authorities.

Authorities coordinated with bunker suppliers, terminals and shipping agents to assess risks, check equipment and monitor vessel movements during the simultaneous operations.
