The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has deployed oil spill response teams after several patches of oil were spotted off Singapore islands.

MPA was alerted to an oil sighting off Pulau Sebarok at about 10.25 AM local time on Sunday, it said in a notification on Sunday.

Aerial surveillance later confirmed oil patches off Pulau Sebarok, Pulau Semakau and Selat Pauh.

No oil was sighted near West Coast, Sentosa or the East Coast during the surveillance.

MPA has activated its oil spill response contractors and directed terminals in the area to deploy their own response resources.

“Relevant agencies have been alerted to take precautionary measures to protect the shorelines, if necessary,” MPA said.

“Ships in port have also been alerted to report any sightings of oil patches.”
