China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) has exercised options for four fuel-saving ultramax bulk carriers, industry news site Seatrade Global reports.

The company expects to receive the 64,000 deadweight tonne (dwt) vessels from Chengxi Shipyard in the second half of 2017.

The deal brings CMES to 10 orders for new ultramax vessels from the shipyard, as well as additional orders from other Chinese yards.

The company has warned that it will report a substantial net loss in fiscal year 2013 because of a difficult tanker shipping market.

When CMES announced orders for the first eight bulkers in the fall, it said the ships will save it money by reducing fuel use and improving operational efficiency.
