CLP and CNOOC Seek Expansion of Alternative Fuel Bunkering in Hong Kong
CLP Holdings and Chinese energy major CNOOC have signed a deal to deepen cooperation on LNG and alternative marine fuel bunkering in Hong Kong.
The agreement marks 30 years of cooperation between the two firms on natural gas supply and includes plans to explore opportunities in LNG and green maritime fuel bunkering, the two firms said in a press release on Thursday.
The companies said the move is intended to support Hong Kong’s ambition to develop as a green maritime fuel bunkering hub.
They will also study cooperation in low- and zero-carbon technologies, including hydrogen and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).
CLP and CNOOC have previously collaborated on the Hong Kong Offshore LNG Terminal and jointly carried out Hong Kong’s first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation with simultaneous cargo handling.
The partnership between the two firms began in 1996 with natural gas supplied from the Yacheng Gas Field for Hong Kong power generation.
