Kongsberg Maritime to Supply Technology Package for Svitzer Electric Tugs
Marine technology company Kongsberg Maritime has won a contract from India’s Cochin Shipyard to supply an integrated technology package for a new series of electric tugboats ordered by towage firm Svitzer.
The deal covers four full-electric TRAnsverse tugs, with options for four more vessels, the firm said in a press release on Tuesday.
Kongsberg Maritime will provide the vessels’ electrical and automation systems, including switchboards, propulsion motors and shore charging equipment.
Each tug will be powered mainly by a 4.8 MWh battery pack.
The vessels will also be fitted with azimuth thrusters, automation systems and towing equipment designed to improve manoeuvrability and operational efficiency in harbour and terminal operations.
The project supports Svitzer’s wider strategy to expand electric tug operations across its global fleet.
