Sri Lankan Player Expands Bunker Supply Operations
Lanka Marine Services (Pvt) Ltd (Lanka Marine) has expanded its supply operations off the port of Galle, becoming the first supplier to have a bunker barge permanently stationed at the port, the Sri Lankan supplier has told Ship & Bunker.
Lanka Marine said its operations have always covered Galle, but until now bunkering at the port has required supplying the fuel from Colombo by either truck or barge.
"By having a barge permanently in Galle, our customers can reduce both the time and the cost of bunkering when calling at the port," said a spokesperson for the supplier.
"We can better cater to the heavy traffic passing through the main east - west shipping route, which sees 200 to 300 vessels passing by the port every day."
Lanka Marine said it recently acquired a new barge, which enabled it to send an existing barge, MT Lanka Marine Kelani, to be stationed in Galle.
The vessel has the capacity to supply 700 Metric Tonnes (MT) of IFO fuel and 300 MT of gasoil.
"Being the pioneer and leading bunker supplier in Sri Lanka we believe in creating value and offering the best service to our customers," the spokesperson concluded.
