MXB Grows Physical Bunker Supply Operations at Mumbai Outer-Port Limits

Matrix Bharat Pte Ltd (MXB) Tuesday announced the commencement of bunker supply operations at Mumbai's Outer-Port Limits (OPL).

"This initiative will enable us to cater for the bunker requirements for vessels while they wait for berthing prospects at Mumbai, Nhava Sheva (containers), JNPT, etc.," the company told Ship & Bunker.

"As Mumbai is the most cost effective port for bunkers in the Indian subcontinent with OPL supplies starting we will also be able to cater for vessels bunkers only call requirement, where in vessels, passing Mumbai Port can take bunkers at OPL without registering it with port thus saving calling cost."

MXB notes that it also started operating from Jawahar Dweep - Mumbai Port's new barge loading terminal, where Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, joint venture partner of MXB, manages the infrastructure.

MXB bunker delivery operations are said to be supported by five barges ranging in capacities from 650 metric tonnes (mt) to 1200 mt.

MXB also has 32,000 metric tonnes (mt) of storage at Jawahar Dweep, and overall has 79,000 mt of storage.
