PIL Completes First LNG Bunkering at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port
Singapore-based shipping company Pacific International Lines (PIL) has completed its first LNG bunkering operation at Shanghai’s Waigaoqiao Port in China.
The container ship Kota Ocean received about 4,300 m3 of LNG from SIPG Energy during simultaneous bunkering and cargo operations at Mingdong Terminal on May 4-5, PIL said in a LinkedIn post on Monday.
PIL said the operation also marked the terminal’s first LNG bunkering operation.
Kota Ocean is one of eight LNG dual-fuel vessels in PIL’s fleet as the company advances its decarbonisation and fleet modernisation plans.
While LNG is becoming a more widely available alternative marine fuel than options such as methanol or ammonia, these vessels may still need to transition to lower-carbon fuels such as bio-LNG as emissions rules tighten.
Bio-LNG can be used as a drop-in fuel in LNG-fuelled ships.
