Towngas Hosts Hong Kong Delegation at Green Methanol Project
The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) hosted a Hong Kong delegation at its green methanol project in Inner Mongolia as it works to expand production of the fuel for shipping.
The delegation, led by Hong Kong’s Transport and Logistics Bureau, included representatives from 14 companies, organisations and universities across the industry, it said in a LinkedIn post over the weekend.
The project, operated by Towngas joint venture VENEX, uses waste branches from sand willow and other shrubs collected with local communities as feedstock for green methanol production.
The vegetation is grown to help combat desertification at sites supported by the Ant Forest ecological project, which was also visited by the delegation.
The delegation later attended a green marine fuel industry cooperation symposium in Beijing, hosted by the Global Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge Center (GSTIKC).
During the trip, Towngas and GSTIKC signed a strategic memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in green fuels.
As more methanol dual-fuel ships join the global fleet, demand for green methanol as marine fuel is expected to grow.
