NYK to Issue Transition Bonds to Support LNG-Fuelled Vessel Investments
Japanese shipping group NYK plans to issue its seventh transition bonds to support decarbonisation projects, including investments in LNG-fuelled vessels.
The issuance, scheduled for October 16, comprises three-year bonds worth ¥62 billion, five-year bonds worth ¥87 billion and 10-year bonds worth ¥78 billion, NYK said in a press release on Friday.
NYK said the proceeds would fund projects aligned with its medium-term management plan, Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026 -A Passion for Planetary Wellbeing.
The company issued the shipping industry’s first green bonds in 2018 and Japan’s first transition bonds in 2021.
It obtained a second-party opinion from the classification society DNV on its transition financing framework ahead of the latest issuance.
