CCS Approves Chinese High-Pressure Direct-Injection Methanol Engine
China Classification Society (CCS) has approved a high-pressure direct-injection methanol single-fuel marine engine developed by Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute (SMDERI).
CCS describes the medium-speed engine as China’s first all-scenario high-pressure direct-injection methanol single-fuel marine engine, it said on Thursday.
CCS has also issued a CN-2 emission approval certificate for the engine.
The two certificates follow comprehensive compliance verification across multiple operating scenarios, covering both domestic and international requirements.
CCS said the approvals will help accelerate the commercialisation and practical application of the technology.
SMDERI said it will continue focusing on low-carbon propulsion technologies and use the certification platform to accelerate the industrialisation of methanol-only and ammonia-fuelled propulsion equipment.
CCS said it will deepen cooperation with SMDERI on green, low-carbon and smart shipping, including work to bring more domestically developed new-energy marine equipment through compliance approval.
