Crew Rescued From MSC Boxship After Distress Alert
All 25 crew members have been rescued from a container ship operated by MSC after it issued a distress alert east of Vietnam.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Singapore received the alert at about 8.45 AM Singapore time today, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said in a notification today.
The Liberia-registered MSC Hermes III was within Singapore’s Maritime Search and Rescue Region, about 300 km east of Vietnam.
MRCC Singapore issued a broadcast requesting nearby vessels to assist.
Three vessels responded, with MSC Ruby recovering all 25 crew members after they abandoned MSC Hermes III in a lifeboat.
All 25 crew members are safe, with no injuries reported.
MRCC Singapore is coordinating with the Vietnamese MRCC on arrangements for the crew to return safely to shore.
