Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lowers 2026 Outlook as Bunker Costs Rise
Norwegian shipping firm Wallenius Wilhelmsen has lowered its 2026 earnings outlook after rising bunker and vessel capacity costs weighed on first-quarter performance despite continued strong shipping demand from Asia.
The company reported adjusted EBITDA of $389 million for Q1 2026, down 3% quarter-on-quarter, it said in its Q1 financial results published on Wednesday.
Revenue totalled $1.25 billion, down 1% from the previous quarter, while net profit edged up to $177 million from $175 million in Q4 2025.
“Shipping demand remains very strong with solid volumes and high utilization, especially ex-Asia, Lasse Kristoffersen, President and CEO of Wallenius Wilhelmsen, said.
At the same time, the conflict in the Middle East and an increasingly tight charter market is putting pressure on net bunker and capacity costs.”
Wallenius Wilhelmsen cut its 2026 adjusted EBITDA outlook to about $1.6 billion from a previous forecast of $1.65-$1.75 billion, citing higher net bunker and vessel capacity costs.
