UK bunker supplier Certas Energy (Certas) has announced that it has opened a new bunkering facility in the Greater London area, known as the Harefield Oil Terminal.

"The terminal is now the second largest fuelling facility to the west of Greater London, with a storage capacity of over 1.3 million litres," said Certas of the new facility located in Uxbridge, which is said to represent a £1 million ($1.55 million) investment by the company.

The completed project is also said to have included a "pump island," which offers multiple fuelling points in order to increase speed and efficiency of fuelling for commercial customers.

"Today is an important day for myself and the team here at Harefield as it sees us reach the conclusion of a complex redevelopment project, which has transformed the site into the modern facility we have here today," stated Alex Ward, Regional Manager for Advance Fuels.

London and the south east of the country are said to have seen "a sharp decline in fuel storage and supply" over the past decade, largely as a result of Buncefield Oil Terminal and Coryton Refinery closures.

"In response to demand from the market, Certas Energy invested in Harefield to provide a much needed fuel source and security of supply for customers in the capital, Home Counties and the South East," stated Certas.

Last year, it was reported that Certas started supplying DMA grade marine gas oil (MGO) with less than 0.1 percent sulfur at Port Tyne.
