Ecoslops, which specializes in recycling ship slops into IFO and MDO bunkers, today announced that it has put forth a formal application to the French competent authorities seeking permission to operate an oil residue waste-processing unit at La Mè€de, near Marseilles.

As Ship & Bunker previously reported, Ecoslops signed an agreement with TOTAL Group in June to set up the bunker focused oil residue waste-processing unit.

"Within this partnership, in which Ecoslops will get a majority stake, and as soon as a unique authorisation is given (building and operation permits), the building of a micro-refinery unit with a 30,000 tonnes per year capacity should start mid 2018," explained Ecoslops.

The new unit is expected to be operational by the end of 2018.

Last week, Ecoslops marked the implementation of a long-term agreement with Galp, which will see Galp purchase the refined cut produced by Ecoslops at its refinery at Sines, Portugal.
