A tanker reported hearing two explosions while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday night, according to a British government agency monitoring maritime security in the region.

The incident was reported about nine nautical miles southeast of Kumzar, Oman, on Wednesday at 19:18 UTC, UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a social media post today.

“The Master reported hearing two explosions whilst transiting the Straits of Hormuz,” UKMTO said in its post.

“The vessel and crew are safe, and no environmental damage has been reported.”

The incident comes as Iran and Oman are reported to be moving closer to an understanding on how to manage shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to data from maritime intelligence firm Windward, around 18 vessels transited the Hormuz Strait on Wednesday, including 11 outbound and seven inbound transits.
