UK Targets Russian LNG Tankers and Bunkering Ships in New Sanctions
The UK government on Thursday sanctioned eight ships as part of a new package targeting Russia’s efforts to maintain gas revenues and circumvent Western restrictions.
The sanctions include several LNG tankers, as well as vessels linked to Russia’s shadow fleet and bunkering operations, it said in an announcement on Thursday.
The UK government said the eight ships include three shadow-fleet vessels, two vessels providing bunkering services and three Russian-owned ice-class vessels.
The LNG tankers named in the sanctions notice include Chaivo, Portovyy, Aleksey Kosygin, Konstantin Posiet and Pyotr Stolypin.
The UK said the measures are aimed at disrupting Russia’s efforts to build a shadow fleet to support its gas exports.
The sanctioned ships will face UK shipping and trade restrictions.
The wider package also targets 23 individuals and entities linked to Russia’s war effort.
