Popular Hamburg-based International maritime trade fair, SMM, says that for 2016 it will have a hall dedicated entirely to alternative marine propulsion, with a particular focus on liquified natural gas (LNG) bunkers.

"Hall A5 will cover all aspects of LNG. Shipyards and suppliers will be provided with the optimal platform to showcase their LNG related technologies‚ as the supply of LNG fuel to ships will be a core topic," said SMM.

"On the other hand, port authorities looking for LNG refuelling concepts will be able to find partners competent in the field of LNG bunkering and storage infrastructure."

In addition to LNG, the new dedicated hall will also highlight other low-emission propulsion technologies including methanol, fuel-cell technology, as well as hybrid and dual-fuel propulsion systems.

SMM 2016 will be held from September 6 – 9.
