Shanghai Chimbusco Marine Bunker Co Ltd has launched a pilot project to standardise methanol bunkering services for ships, with completion planned by the end of 2028.

The project was selected for Shanghai’s 2026 Standardisation Pilot Programme and aims to establish standards covering the entire bunkering process, from pre-bunkering to post-bunkering, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.

The company held a launch meeting and training session on October 20, with experts providing guidance on project implementation and standardisation.

The initiative aims to create a model for methanol bunkering services at Shanghai Port and across China, supporting the development of green marine fuels.

About 10,000 mt of domestically produced green methanol was supplied to ships in Shanghai last year, compared with around 3,000 mt in Singapore.
