Swedish propulsion firm Berg Propulsion will provide propulsion and control systems for four diesel-electric offshore support tugs being built by Uzmar Shipyard for Smit Lamnalco in Turkey.

The 60 m tugs, based on a design from Robert Allan, will each deliver more than 130 tonnes bollard pull, Berg Propulsion said in an email statement on Monday.

It will make them the most powerful vessels of their type built in Turkey so far.

Berg will supply azimuth thrusters, bow thrusters and its control system for the vessels, which will initially operate in French Guiana.

The company said the all-electric propulsion setup offers greater flexibility and full torque at any speed, making it increasingly attractive for tug operators.

The first equipment delivery is scheduled for November 2026, with the final vessel due by July 2027.
