Suspected pirate activity has been reported in the Gulf of Aden, according to a British government agency monitoring maritime security in the region.
Several small craft were described as operating near commercial vessels in the region yesterday, according to a social media post from the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) on Wednesday.
One boat was reported to be green and blue, carrying nine people and equipped with two ladders and a hook, UKMTO said.
Vessels transiting the area have been advised to exercise caution, follow the Best Management Practices for Maritime Security (BMP MS) and report any suspicious activity.
Piracy is not uncommon in the region. In August, a vessel was hijacked by six armed men in the Gulf of Aden before being taken towards Somalia.
