Rotterdam-based technology company Wattlab has launched WEstack, a standardised battery system for inland shipping that can be installed onboard vessels within a single working day.

The system is delivered fully assembled and tested, reducing installation time from several weeks to one day, the firm said in an emailed press release on Monday.

WEstack is designed to reduce diesel generator running hours by up to 80-90%, lowering bunker fuel consumption, maintenance costs and CO2 emissions.

The battery system is available in 100, 200, 300 and 400 kWh versions and can be fitted to both newbuild and existing vessels.

Wattlab said the system can be used on a range of inland and short-sea vessels and is intended to provide a lower-cost alternative to custom-built marine battery installations.
