STR to Add New Storage Capacity for Marine Biofuels and Methanol in Rotterdam
Service Terminal Rotterdam (STR) is planning to add about 100,000 m3 of storage capacity for marine biofuels and methanol at Rotterdam through its new GreenSTR project.
The project will be built on a vacant plot adjacent to STR's existing terminal in the Port of Rotterdam and is aimed at supporting growing demand for the storage and blending of alternative marine fuels, it said in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday.
The company owns and operates a bunker fuel terminal at the Port of Rotterdam’s Boltek area with a capacity of 242,000 m3. The terminal caters to the ARA bunker market.
STR said the new facility will be able to handle a range of products, including biofuels and methanol.
The company currently focuses on fuel storage for the marine sector and offers blending services at its Rotterdam terminal.
STR has selected Vicoma as the engineering partner for the project and is working with Antea Group Nederland on permitting activities.
The company said GreenSTR will help address the need for infrastructure dedicated to the storage and blending of marine fuels as the shipping industry increases its use of lower-carbon fuel options.
