Gate Terminal in Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte has commissioned its fourth LNG storage tank, adding 180,000 m3 of storage capacity as the port expands its LNG infrastructure.

The new tank takes Gate Terminal's total annual capacity to 20 billion m3, the Port of Rotterdam said in an announcement on Monday.

The port is also building a fourth jetty at the terminal, which is expected to begin small-scale LNG ship loading and bunkering operations by the end of 2028.

The new jetty will add to Rotterdam's existing LNG bunkering infrastructure.

Gate Terminal is a joint venture between Gasunie and Vopak.

The terminal receives LNG by ship, stores it in liquid form and regasifies it for delivery through the gas transmission network to customers in the Netherlands and neighbouring countries.

Gate is also assessing a potential fifth jetty, depending on market interest.

Rotterdam is a major LNG bunkering hub, with around 273,021 m3 of LNG bunkers sold in the port in Q2 2026, up 31.5% year-on-year.
