Bulk Carrier Hit by Drone Near Qatar
A bulk carrier was hit by a drone near Qatar on Sunday morning, causing a fire onboard.
The incident was reported at 23 nautical miles northeast of Doha at 03:01 UTC yesterday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said in a social media post.
Qatar’s Ministry of Defense said the vessel, which was sailing from Abu Dhabi, was targeted by a drone on Sunday morning, resulting in a minor fire.
The fire was brought under control, and the vessel continued its voyage towards Mesaieed Port, the ministry said, adding that the necessary measures were taken in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Tensions in the Middle East continue to remain elevated. President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest ceasefire response, calling it ‘totally unacceptable’.
Shipping operations in and around the Strait of Hormuz have faced disruption since late February amid the conflict.
