Spanish ferry operator Balearia has introduced the LNG dual-fuel fast ferry Mercedes Pinto for services linking Las Palmas, Morro Jable and Tenerife in the Canary Islands.

The 123 m catamaran cost €128 million and is equipped with dual-fuel LNG engines, the firm said in a statement on its website on Wednesday.

Balearia said the vessel will undergo docking trials at several Canary Islands ports in the coming days before entering service.

The company said the addition forms part of its fleet modernisation strategy focused on improving operational reliability, passenger comfort and environmental performance across its Canary Islands network.

The fast ferry can carry up to 1,200 passengers and 425 vehicles, with a top speed of 35 knots.
