Shipping firm G2 Ocean will add six new alt-fuel-ready open-hatch gantry crane vessels to its fleet pool from 2029 under its ongoing fleet renewal programme.

The vessels will each have a deadweight capacity of 65,400 tonnes and are being designed for future fuels including ammonia and methanol, the firm said in a press release on Tuesday.

The move comes alongside the delivery of 10 newbuild vessels to G2 Ocean between 2026 and 2029, with the first vessel, Star Norge, delivered earlier this year.

The company is also upgrading its existing fleet.

General cargo vessel Star Kirkenes will be fitted with AirWing 20 jet sails, a wind-assisted propulsion system aimed at lowering bunker fuel consumption and emissions.

The six new vessels will be built by New Dayang Shipbuilding in Yangzhou, China.

Founded in 2017 by Gearbulk and Grieg Maritime Group, G2 Group is the world’s largest open hatch ship operator.
