Swedish E-Fuels Firm Liquid Wind Files for Bankruptcy
Swedish e-fuels developer Liquid Wind AB has been declared bankrupt, with the company and its Nordic subsidiaries now being offered for sale.
The bankruptcy proceedings began on May 11, with lawyer Lars Melin of Styrks Law Firm appointed as bankruptcy trustee, the company announced in a statement on its website on Wednesday.
Liquid Wind said employees had already met with the bankruptcy trustee and colleagues involved in the administration process.
The business, including subsidiaries in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, is now up for sale.
Liquid Wind has been seeking to develop e-methanol production facilities to cater to demand from various sectors, including shipping.
The bankruptcy raises questions over its planned e-methanol projects.
In October 2025, the company had won a grant of €3.6 million from the Swedish agency Industriklivet to support pre-engineering work for its planned e-methanol plant in Ornskoldsvik. The facility was expected to produce 100,000 mt/year of e-methanol.
Dual-fuel methanol ships can use e-methanol without requiring major modification.
